Remediation of an Ionic Works for Industrial Development
ProblemA complex metal plating and ionic works was recognised by the Regulator as a serious environmental problem. The site was not intended for residential development and as a consequence it was important that the clean-up values reflected this. SolutionStage 1 A detailed site investigation of soils and water was carried out using chemical analysis and the Remedios Biosensors. The Biosensors enabled a rapid screen allowing focussed chemical analysis. Stage 2 Bespoke Risk Assessment models reflecting specific site aspects and the intended use were applied to enable clean-up that met the environmental improvement targets. The use of on site screening tools minimised the volumes of waste and optimised the clean-up. Today On site monitoring and liaison with the Regulators means that the site is now of value and industrial re-development is taking place. This is key to the redevelopment of blighted sites. Remedios were able to refine the sample collection with the biosensors, optimise the hazard assessment and development an understanding of the site that fitted all stakeholders.
