Phase III (Remediation) and Phase IV (Validation) Site Investigations
Normally for all remediation work in the UK the Regulatory Authorities will first require a remediation statement (also referred to as a remedial strategy). The remediation statement documents the various aspects of the remedial approach intended to occur in detail and should meet the regulatory requirements.
Phase III Site Investigation is the remediation, or clean-up, of known contamination and is usually accompanied with validation sampling, a Phase IV Site Investigation, to ensure that the contaminant concentrations in the ground no longer pose significant risks to receptors.
There are a number of techniques and approaches for remediating contaminants in the. There can be several options for any one site which are alternative to landfilling with lower associated costs and/or environmental impacts.
